Welcome

Welcome to Lotus Books...a blog dedicated to Japanese photography and photographic monographs. Photography has played a vital role in Japanese culture soon after its introduction to the country in the 1850's. Photographic monographs have been critical in the distribution of Japanese photographs outside Japan. Because there was a delayed evolution of galleries and museums exhibiting photography, books became the primary means for Japanese photographers to present their work to the public.
